Autumn Landscape

I am currently working on a painting commissioned by a customer. This painting has a mid-tone brown under-painting and in the first image the trees in the background have been indicated. The bottom third had been started in the second image but is not yet complete.

Working on a new painting. This will be a fall scene with the mountains in the background. I have loosely sketched the trees in and will begin adding more detail.

I am working on a new landscape. In the first image the colors are roughed in. In the second the foreground dark value is established. In the third the clouds are softened somewhat and the horizon is more detailed with some orange and yellow indicated and some definition added to the bottom of the clouds. Next will be deciding what to include in the foreground.

Update

I have added some detail to this painting and continue to work on the sky and background. It should be finished in a few days.

Added a few things on this one. I indicated some foliage and worked on the right hue and value for the shadows. Some more under-painting was added in a dark value at the bottom and then over-painted with a warmer red.

I am showing several steps in developing a new painting. After assembling the stretcher strips and stretching the canvas, I apply two coats of gesso and then an under-painting shown in the first photo. I then begin to sketch the general outline in charcoal. Next I have painted in the sky and mountains, which may still be subject to some changes. The bottom of the painting then receives a second under-painting in brighter hues. Some dark areas are also indicated. In the top photo I have started to indicate some detail. I will post more on this painting as it develops.

I made some final alterations to the sky and foreground and restretched the canvas and this painting is now finished and will be listed on my Etsy website.

I am continuing to work on this painting. I have worked in a dark under-painting for the bottom third in the first example and applied the foreground over it in the second. I have a few things to work out yet, and should have it finished shortly.

Sky

Working on a new painting. I have roughed in the sky on this one and added some cloud cover and I will continue to work on that. I am undecided at this time on the lower part of this painting.

Working on a new painting. Colors have been laid in and the painting now needs to be detailed.

Sunset on the Plains

This panoramic painting is now complete and is listed on my Etsy website. It contains lots of color and contrast, and emphasizes the dominance of nature against the farm silhouette.

Regional Art Show

I have several of my paintings currently on display at the Kirksville Arts Center Gallery in Kirksville MO. The exhibit will run through July.

I dropped the horizon line on this painting and sketched in the silhouette. I need to work on the lower part of the sky and continue on the foreground.

I'm working on a new painting with lots of sky and vivid color. Plan to have a red orange horizon with silhouettes in a scene at dusk.

Wilderness Landscape

After some minor changes, this painting is finished and will be listed on my Etsy website. My intent here was to capture the quality of light at sunset in this wilderness surrounding.

I have refined this painting and now need to evaluate it to decide if further changes are needed.

This painting is coming along and nearing completion. I like the odd angles in this painting, such as the roof higher on one side. I have added detail in several areas and blue accents for shadows. There is a little work to do and I will be listing this one on Etsy.

More detail has been added to this painting. I will be adding shadows values to the shed and detailing the fence, windows, trees, and foreground next.

Local Exhibition

Locally, I will have some of my paintings on exhibition in The Kirksville Arts Center gallery beginning June 30. The Arts Center is located a few blocks north of the Truman University campus in Kirksville MO. I will have more on this later.

The Locker

I am establishing color relationships and contrasts in this painting. The predominate theme, as far as color, will be red-orange with shades of brown and blue shadows.

Landscape changes

I have made some changes to this painting. I removed the line of trees, which was a distraction and provided too much contrast and replaced them with a softer background to better harmonize with the rest of the painting. I may make a few minor changes and will then post this new painting on Etsy.

New Landscape

This is a work in progress I posted a sketch of earlier. The above is a updated sketch and the beginning of the painting. I have worked on the background and the dark value in the center of this painting. The bottom third of this work is to consist of a rock slope with shadows and some green values for balance.

This is a quick sketch of a new painting I will be working on. It is an abandoned meat locker which contains some interesting angles and off center dimensions. I will be posting updates

Pastoral Impression

This painting is finished and will be listed on Etsy. It is a loose, impressionistic study of a field of flowers with the contrasting dark values of the trees in the background. It is 11 X 14 with gallery wrapped canvas.

I am working on a couple of paintings. In the lower painting I have added color in the boats and now will be adding more detail to the overall scene. In the landscape I have established light and dark areas and a color scheme. I want to avoid becoming too detailed in this painting and allow
for a more painterly approach.
