I am working on a new landscape. In the first image the colors are roughed in. In the second the foreground dark value is established. In the third the clouds are softened somewhat and the horizon is more detailed with some orange and yellow indicated and some definition added to the bottom of the clouds. Next will be deciding what to include in the foreground.

I am showing several steps in developing a new painting. After assembling the stretcher strips and stretching the canvas, I apply two coats of gesso and then an under-painting shown in the first photo. I then begin to sketch the general outline in charcoal. Next I have painted in the sky and mountains, which may still be subject to some changes. The bottom of the painting then receives a second under-painting in brighter hues. Some dark areas are also indicated. In the top photo I have started to indicate some detail. I will post more on this painting as it develops.

Sunset on the Plains

This panoramic painting is now complete and is listed on my Etsy website. It contains lots of color and contrast, and emphasizes the dominance of nature against the farm silhouette.

Wilderness Landscape

After some minor changes, this painting is finished and will be listed on my Etsy website. My intent here was to capture the quality of light at sunset in this wilderness surrounding.

Landscape changes

I have made some changes to this painting. I removed the line of trees, which was a distraction and provided too much contrast and replaced them with a softer background to better harmonize with the rest of the painting. I may make a few minor changes and will then post this new painting on Etsy.
