Added a few things on this one. I indicated some foliage and worked on the right hue and value for the shadows. Some more under-painting was added in a dark value at the bottom and then over-painted with a warmer red.
I am showing several steps in developing a new painting. After assembling the stretcher strips and stretching the canvas, I apply two coats of gesso and then an under-painting shown in the first photo. I then begin to sketch the general outline in charcoal. Next I have painted in the sky and mountains, which may still be subject to some changes. The bottom of the painting then receives a second under-painting in brighter hues. Some dark areas are also indicated. In the top photo I have started to indicate some detail. I will post more on this painting as it develops.
I am a Missouri artist who became interested in art at a young age, majored in art in college, and graduated from Truman State University in 1990 with a B A in art. I painted commissioned artwork for a few years before recently deciding to sell my work online.
